About the event

Human Trafficking and Domestic Violence: Ways We Can Help Victims

Please join the University Park Woman’s Club on Monday, March 7th for a special program by Marge Shiflett on Human Trafficking and Domestic Violence and what we can do to help victims.  Marge will share information on what groups of people fall into the categories of Domestic and Sexual Violence and how to aid those who are trafficked into what, in many cases, is a form of slavery.

Marge will clarify what constitutes abuse and provide details on who are likely to be the victims and who could be predators. She will also cover the laws protecting victims of human trafficking and the places where predators search for victims.

Marge is currently the Chairperson for Domestic and Sexual Violence, Awareness and Prevention of the GFWC Maryland Federation of Women’s Clubs, Inc. Prior to her position as state chair, she served for 10 years in this same capacity for the GFWC Montgomery County District and for GFWC Woman’s Club of Bethesda. Marge also served as President of the Woman’s Club of Bethesda for two terms.

Marge has lived in the Metropolitan Area for the past 32 years. She moved here to accept a management position at Walter Reed Army Medical Center and later held the position of Outplacement Recruitment Director at the Food and Drug Administration. Marge majored in Adolescent Psychology at the University of Texas. She and her husband raised six daughters.

Finally, Marge will share tips on ways to help protect family members and friends and those currently in shelters. Elder Abuse, Native American Women Abuse, Spousal Abuse, Dating Abuses, and more will be discussed.

The program will be in-person at the University Christian Church at the corner of Adelphi and Belcrest Roads in Hyattsville on Monday, March 7, with sign-in beginning at 11:30 a.m. Store wrapped snacks and bottled water will be provided. Please bring a mask and RSVP.
