UPWC is proud to welcome Delegate Anne Healey as our guest speaker. Delegate Healey has served in the Maryland House of Delegates representing District 22 since 1991. She will share legislative updates from the 2020 session and speak about the significance of the 19th amendment giving women the right to vote. She will also tell us how the State of Maryland is celebrating the 100th anniversary of this important amendment to our U.S. Constitution.
Anne has lived in Hyattsville since 1979. She is originally from Scranton, Pennsylvania, and in 8th grade became active in Democratic politics by working on the mayor’s race. As a young girl, Anne was moved by stories of the Civil Rights Movement and was inspired by President John F. Kennedy. In Annapolis, she has sponsored legislation on a wide range of issues from protecting vulnerable adults from domestic violence to making the tax code fairer and more progressive. She has been an outspoken advocate for working people and for the needy and vulnerable.
